Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a price quote before bringing in my item?
We understand the desire for an estimate up front — we really do. But with alterations and embroidery, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Pricing depends on a variety of factors, including the type of garment or item, the material, the type of stitching, the construction details, the fit goals, and the amount of labor involved.
For example, shortening pants with a cuff or lining takes more time than a simple hem. Embroidering a design on a thick bathrobe requires different thread tension and hooping methods than embroidering on a baseball cap or nylon jacket. We also account for things like fabric stretch, seams, layers, and how visible the stitching will be.
To give you the most accurate quote, we need to see the item in person. We’ll examine the material, discuss what you’re looking for, and offer you an honest estimate based on our labor and expertise. We’re always happy to talk through options and help you decide what’s worth doing.
Do you offer rush service or emergency appointments?
Yes — we offer emergency and after-hours appointments when we can, especially during prom, wedding, and event season. That said, we may apply a rush fee if the timeline is especially tight or requires late-night work. We’ll always be up front with you before any extra charges apply.
Do I need an appointment?
Walk-ins are welcome during regular hours, but for larger orders or specialty items, we recommend calling ahead. Embroidery jobs, bridalwear, and tailored fittings take time and attention — and we want to give you both.
Can you embroider items I already own?
Absolutely! Whether it’s a towel set, a scrub top, or a work jacket, we’re happy to personalize it with custom embroidery. Just bring it in, and we’ll talk through placement, size, thread color, and your design preferences. Please note that not all items are embroidery-friendly, but we’ll let you know what’s possible.
What kinds of alterations do you offer?
We do everything from hemming pants and tapering sleeves to replacing zippers, adjusting waistlines, and tailoring formalwear. We also specialize in bridal and prom alterations and offer thoughtful tailoring for uniforms, workwear, and casual clothes.
How long will my project take?
It depends on the item and the service. Simple hems can often be completed within a few days. More complex jobs — like gown adjustments, multiple embroidery placements, or intricate tailoring — may take longer. We’ll give you an estimated turnaround time when you drop off your item.
Do items need to be cleaned before I bring them in?
Yes, absolutely. All items brought in must be clean, laundered, and free of strong odors (including smoke and perfume). We work in close contact with fabric every day, and clean materials help us maintain a healthy, respectful environment for all clients. Items that don’t meet these standards may be turned away at drop-off.
Where are you located?
We’re based in Strongsville and proudly serve the Greater Cleveland area. You’ll find us in a cozy little building with a U-shaped driveway, and a sign out front that says “Strongsville Alterations & Embroidery.” Just look for the open sign! Map link.
